Viessmann Vitodens 100 Gas Fired Wall Mounted Boiler Review

The Viessmann Vitodens 100 is a Gas Fired Modulating Condensing Wall Mounted Boiler. The Viessmann Vitodens 100 is available in two models the WB1A 8-24 and WB1A 8-30 both of which have a efficiency of 95.1% AFUE making them Energy Star rated in the US and in Canada they authorized to carry the EcoLogo mark. Viessmann is a German based corporation that was founded in 1917 with their main headquarters in Allendorf (Eder), Germany. Today the corporation has a staff of about 8,700 people, 16 plants in 8 countries including Canada, and 120 sales offices in 37 countries with 60% of their products exported with annual sales of about $2.5B USD. Viessmann makes boilers for many different fuels including oil, natural gas, LP gas, biogas, and solid fuels with a focus on clean emissions and high efficiencies, along with renewable energy such as solar.

The Viessmann Vitodens 100 having the Energy Star rating makes it eligible for Rebates of up to $200 under the Appliance Stimulus Package, Grants of up to $6500 under the Weatherization Assistance Program if you qualify, and an Income Tax Credit. About ½ of the states also offer existing state and utility energy saving rebate programs that may apply as well making upgrading to a new energy saving heating system affordable.

The Viessmann Vitodens 100 has a fully modulating stainless steel cylinder burner that is low emission and has a factory calibration with no adjustments in the field required. The emissions are less than 29 ppm NOx and 40 ppm CO meeting the stringent SCAQMD requirements of the southern California area. The condensing boiler is a Viessmann Inox-Radial heat exchanger constructed out of 316 stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The Viessmann Vitodens 100 WB1A 8-24 modulates from 29 – 80 MBH and the WB1A 8-30 modulates from 29 – 100 MBH.  The control is integrated into the boiler with an LCD that has diagnostic functions, with faults displayed and resettable from the control panel. The control panel also controls operating parameters such as boiler water temperature, high limit, domestic hot water with a separate DHW controller connected, and provides frost protection. Included, as standard equipment is a pressure gage, 30 psig pressure relief valve, installation fittings, fill/drain valves, and mounting hardware.

The Viessmann Vitodens 100 in residential use comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty that affords a level of protection that is unmatched by any other manufacturer.
