The Streamlight LightBox Rechargeable Lantern is a great light for service plumbers. For some reason they just don’t put plumbing in well-lit areas and lighting the area where we are working is always a pain. Most flashlights don’t have a bright enough light, and are troublesome to keep pointed at the work area, and always seem to have dying batteries in the middle of the job keeping you addicted to purchasing endless amounts of batteries. Fluorescent work lights aren’t all that bright and the long tube always seems to be in the way add to that the battery use headaches or, plugging it in and having the cord in the way. Incandescent work lights are even worse with the heat they generate and even the rough service bulbs are only a bump or, splash of water away from burning out. Quartz Halogen work lamps may be good for lighting a room for a dry wall hanger or painter but try lighting under a sink with them and you’ll be getting a tan.
I was first exposed to the Streamlight LiteBox as a volunteer firefighter. We were given new hand lanterns to install on our truck. Lighting on the fireground was tough task and the hand lanterns took a beating the Streamlight LightBoxes were quickly liked by everyone. They proved to be highly reliable, very durable, and very low maintenance, while having features that everyone loved. Streamlight’s initial market focus was on the Law Enforcement, Firefighting, EMS, and Military markets. Today Streamlight has broadened their market base to include the trades and sportsmen too. Streamlight Inc. is based in Eagleville, Pennsylvania and their products are distributed in over 60 countries around the world.
The Streamlight LightBox is a rechargeable lantern that can operate up to 9 hours on a single charge depending on the bulb type. They are available in many types of lamps both spot and flood with Halogen, Xenon, LED, and even HID bulbs available. My personal preference for the plumbing work is the regular LightBox with a 8-watt Halogen flood lamp that gives off 150 Lumens or, 1,500 Candlepower of light lasting up to 9 hours on a single charge. I initially use a small flashlight when looking over the job but when I get ready to work and I need light the Streamlight LightBox comes out. It can be set down near the work area pointed in the right direction and the head tilt is adjustable so you can get the light where you need it while being out of your way. The 8-watt Halogen bulb flood lamp does not generate a significant amount of heat, serves well as an area light in dark basements and crawlspaces, and in a little closer is a good task light. It can take a beating, or a wetting without dying on you and won’t leave you in the dark. You can get the Streamlight LightBox with a vehicle mounted charger or, a 120-Volt charger for home or, office use. I have both types and they keep the Streamlight LiteBox fully charged ready for use at all times. I don’t use the vehicle-mounted charger overnight or, on weekends, because the last thing I want is a dead battery in the service truck when I go to start working again after a weekend off.
Streamlight LightBoxes have a Lifetime Warranty and they will repair, replace, or refund your money at their option any Streamlight product that doesn’t work or, is broken as long as you own it. Abuse, bulbs, chargers, and batteries are not included the rechargeable batteries and chargers have a 1 Year Warranty.
The Streamlight LightBox could very well be the last hand lantern you will ever need to buy. Streamlight LightBoxes are available at many locations mostly Law Enforcement, Firefighting, EMS and Industrial suppliers.
