Slant Fin Bobcat Modulating Condensing Gas Boilers have 2 models the B-120, which has an input modulation from 30,000 to 120,000 BTUH, and the B-200, which has an input modulation from 50,000 to 200,000 BTUH. Both of the Slant Fin Bobcat models have an efficiency of 93% AFUE, making the Bobcat an Energy Star Rated boiler. Selecting a Energy Star boiler for your home opens wide array of “Free Money Programs” that can help with the costs of buying and installing a new boiler to upgrade your older inefficient heating system. These “Free Money” programs are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which is designed to stimulate the economy by helping consumers purchase higher efficiency appliances for their homes. These programs will provide consumers with high efficiency, green appliances that will lessen our demand for foreign energy and provide a savings in their energy costs while saving the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. It is hoped that the savings will also provide an economic stimulus by consumers having more money available to spend on things besides their energy bills. Rebates of up to $200 are available under the Appliance Stimulus Package, Grants up to $6500 are available through the Weatherization Assistance Program to those who qualify, and a 30% Income Tax Credit up to $1500 of the cost to purchase and install a new energy efficient heating system are available.
The Slant Fin Bobcat Modulating Condensing Gas Boiler’s high efficiency comes from being a Mod Con boiler as we call them in the trade. In a modulating burner the air and fuel is premixed in a fan as it is sent to the stainless steel knitted fiber burner. This premixing and the knitted fiber burner makes the flame very stable and clean burning while making flame detection easier. In addition modulating burners use a microprocessor-based control, which monitors the operation of the boiler and burner, the microprocessor determines the exact heat demand and adjusts the modulation of the burner to match the demand eliminating cycling of the burner which is very inefficient. This concept is very similar to using the gas pedal in your car and keeps the burner where it delivers maximum efficiency and comfort. The condensing boiler is the second part of the equation. Condensing boilers use an extra heat exchanger section, which scrubs the heat out of the flue gases and uses it to preheat the water returning to the boiler. The flue gases end up having so much heat removed from them that steam in the flue gases condense to water, and the flue gases can be exhausted through PVC pipe. This condensing preheating section utilizes heat wasted in previous boiler designs and is what gives this new generation of boilers their ultra efficiencies in the mid 90% range. The water that condenses from the flue gases are corrosive so the boilers need to be constructed from corrosion resistant materials such as aluminum and stainless steel, and neutralizers are required on the condensate drain. One of the biggest benefits other than energy cost savings is that the flue gases of the Mod Con boilers are quite clean and their emissions meet the Low NOx standards that are being adopted across the country such as the SCAQMD regulations in Southern California. NOx is a major component of smog and is a greenhouse gas as well so these new boilers are quite “Green.” It is nice to have “Green Technology” that has a payback, as it will become accepted easier by the consumers.
The Slant Fin Bobcat Modulating Condensing Gas Boiler weighs 145 Lbs. for the B-120 and 200 Lbs. for the B-200, and they can be floor mounted or, wall hung, and fired on Natural Gas or, converted to LP Gas with an orifice specify when ordering. The Slant Fin Bobcat features an aluminum heat exchanger that has a low mass and high thermal conductivity which quickly gets the heat into the room instead of spending time warming up the boiler. The modulating burner has a turndown ratio of 4:1. The B-120 boiler measures 35” H X 22”W X 14” D and the B-200 boiler measures 40” H X 30”W X 14” D. The Slant Fin Bobcat features a microprocessor-based control that shows the operating mode and temperature on the display next to the power switch and pressure gauge. The control monitors the heat demand and modulates the burner to math the demand. It also has outdoor reset and can provide control of domestic hot water production with options built right in. The Bobcat also controls the sequence of operation and monitors status with an LED display showing diagnostic information as well as set up and operating conditions. The Slant Fin Bobcat Gas Boiler has spark ignition, gas valve, inlet and outlet temperature sensors, boiler drain valve and condensate trap provided as standard equipment. The Bobcat also has sealed combustion with no connection to the air inside the home, all the air connections are to the outside. The Bobcat can be vented using PVC, CPVC or, stainless steel tube. In residential use Slant Fin Provides a 12-Year Warranty, If properly registered within one-month a 5-Year homeowner Protection plan covers parts and labor, the heat exchanger has a 5-Year replacement warranty, followed in years 6-12 with a pro-rated heat exchanger warranty.
