The Modulating Burner of the Noritz 0842 Series premixes the fuel and air mixture in the blower with provides a thorough mixing making the burner flame very stable and modulates the firing rate between 11,000 and 199,000 Btuh burning only as much fuel that is required to heat the water at flows as low as ½ GPM. The Condensing feature is the second half of the high efficiency of the Noritz 0842 Series Gas Tankless Water Heaters where the flue gases that have temperatures of about 400 Degrees F which previously would have been exhausted in a conventional tankless water heater are used in a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger to preheat the incoming cold water. The secondary heat exchanger using these flue gases for preheating the incoming cold water scrubs so much of the heat out of the flue cases that water vapor in the flue gases condense releasing the latent heat of steam and the hot flue gases which previously would have been exhausted are reduced in temperature to about 120 Degrees F. The Noritz 0842 Series Gas Tankless Water Heaters feature a dual heat exchanger with the primary heat exchanger constructed of copper and the secondary heat exchanger constructed of stainless steel, and the heat exchanger is constructed with thicker piping than many competing units. They also feature the modulating burner with an automatic air regulator, which monitors the internal temperature and makes adjustments for maximum efficiency in the burner operation.
