Apple Crisp has always been a family favorite in our house, and I have experimented with different ingredients trying to achieve the perfect Apple Crisp Recipe. I have found that the actual apples I use doesn’t matter as much as all ingredients that go into the actual Apple Crisp Topping. My personal favorite will always be Macintosh Apples, but Granny Smith apples have a tartness that many people like. I have used a combination of different apples in the same Apple Crisp Recipe. Fortunately we are in apple season, so pick the apple your family likes. With the economy the way it is today, we are all searching for ways to have quality, family time without breaking the bank. There are many orchards and farm markets that allow you to go and pick your own. Along with apple picking, some of the orchards or farms offer other types of family entertainment, such as corn mazes and hayrides. Some charge a small fee or none at all. It would be a wonderful time with the kids or grandkids and you also get the apples for your Perfect Apple Crisp Recipe. However, if you don’t have time for that, most of the grocery stores have a great selection of apples to choose from to make Perfect Apple Crisp. This is the Perfect Apple Crisp Recipe however, as I have said it is the Apple Crisp Topping that makes the difference. I have used many different fruits with this recipe, canned included, and they are all delicious. I have never used rhubarb, but I bet it would be tasty.
The Perfect Apple Crisp recipe can be doubled or even tripled depending on how many you are feeding or how much you want to go off that diet. Real butter is used in this recipe and I wouldn’t suggest using any of the margarines or spreads that are available. If you are trying to watch your fats, then, moderation is the key and the smaller recipe would be better.
I recommend using Pyrex dishes for baking. They are easy to clean, they have no hard to clean corners like their metal counterparts. I love to bake, but cleaning up can be tedious. Use what you have; it’s the Apple Crisp Topping that counts.
Perfect Apple Crisp Recipe:
- 4 Cups of apples, pealed and sliced
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup flour
- ¾ cup of sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ cup butter
Combine the salt, flour, sugar, cinnamon and butter until crumbly. I think a fork works best for this. Don’t melt the butter, bring it to room temperature and then add it to the recipe. Place apples in a greased 9 by 9 inch pan. Sprinkle the Apple Crisp Topping over apples. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
To give an added richness, I have put vanilla ice cream or cream on single, servings of warm apple crisp. Put it in the microwave and warm it up. Enjoy!
