Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boiler Review

The Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boilers are available in 3 models with inputs of 50, 75, and 100 MBH with an efficiency of 90% AFUE. Dunkirk has been making gas and oil-fired hot water and steam boilers for residential and commercial buildings since 1928 in Dunkirk, NY. In 1999 The Utica Companies (Utica) and Dunkirk Radiator Corporation merged to form ECR International named in honor of Earle C. Reed the founder of both companies. ECR has plants in Dunkirk, Utica, and Rome, New York and in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada providing equipment for all your heating and cooling needs.

The Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boilers have an efficiency of 90% AFUE giving it the right to carry the Energy Star Seal. Boilers that have the Energy Star Seal are eligible for Appliance Stimulus Package rebates of $50 – 200, grants under the Weatherization Assistance Program of up to $6500 if you qualify, and are eligible for Tax Credits as well. The Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Boiler takes the heat of the flue gases and uses the heat to preheat the water going into the boiler. This takes so much of the heat out of the flue gases that steam in the flue gases condense to water releasing the latent heat of steam. The flue gases are so cool after going through the condensing boiler that they may be exhausted through a PVC pipe.

The Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boiler can be fired with natural or LP gas. The Quantum Q90-100 Series uses a highly efficient aluminum heat exchanger that transfers heat three times faster than a cast iron heat exchanger and the Quantum Q90-100 Series boilers only weigh 256 Lbs. The Q90-100’s use a sealed combustion direct vent system so no heated indoor air is lost in operation. The microprocessor based boiler control takes care of safety monitoring, operation and diagnostics. Controlling and monitoring the stainless steel burner, hot surface igniter, high limit, casting temperature, and vent temperature, gas valve and the airflow-proving switch. The burner and boiler control comes completely wired. Also supplied, as standard equipment on the Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boiler is a baked enamel jacket, High limit aquastat, temperature pressure gauge, service switch, control transformer, air vent, Taco or, Grundfos circulator pump, and isolation valves for the circulator pump.

Boilers from the early to mid 1980’s AFUE ratings are often as low as 55 to 65% vs. the new Dunkirk Quantum Q90-100 Series Condensing Gas Boiler its 90% efficiency will yield you a considerable savings in your energy costs. In fact if your present boiler had an efficiency of 70% AFUE upgrading to the Quantum Q90-100 Series with its 90% efficiency would give you about a 28% savings on your energy costs. The combination of Appliance Stimulus Package Rebates, Weatherization Assistance Program Grants and Tax Credits make saving money on your fuel costs more affordable than ever before.
