The Beckett Heat Manager can save you 10 – 20% of your fuel usage on any oil, natural gas or, LP gas boiler. In fact Beckett is so sure of it that they offer a full refund for the purchase price of any Beckett Heat Manager that does not reduce the energy consumption of your boiler for heating by at least 10% after the first full year of operation. There is only one hitch. The Way the Beckett Heat Manager controls your burner makes it very unlikely that you will be able not to save 10% on your energy consumption. Reginald Beckett founded Beckett Corporation in Elyria, Ohio in 1937, and is now a third generation company still controlled by the Beckett family in Elyria. In the 72 years since its founding Beckett has become a recognized oil burner industry leader.
The Beckett Heat Manager is a microprocessor based add-on module to the burner controls with a temperature sensor that mounts on the boiler supply pipe. Boilers have to be sized for the maximum heat load your home will face in order to keep your home comfortable on the coldest winter day. However, this day is rarely seen so during most of the time the boiler is oversized for the operating conditions it faces. The burner has two speeds being on and off so it is quite inefficient at meeting the heating needs of your home most of the time. It is actually like using drag racing car for a morning commute in stop and go traffic. When a thermostat calls for heat the boiler instantly fires and water starts circulating heating your home. If the heating demand is lower than the maximum demand which is most of the time the burner runs until the temperature reaches the high limit then the burner shuts off water continues to circulate until the water temperature in the boiler reaches the low limit temperature setting then the burner restarts heating to the high limit again with this occurring until the thermostat tells the boiler the home is warm enough. The on off cycling is the equivalent of you driving the race car and every time you go to move ahead, flooring the gas pedal then skidding to a stop when traffic ahead of you slows. The Beckett Heat Manager’s microprocessor works to smooth out your boilers driving habits to allow more efficient heating of your home.
When a thermostat first calls for heat the Beckett Heat Manager checks to see if there is any residual heat left in the boiler from the last heating cycle. In a boiler there almost always is because they are sized for the maximum heat load. In addition older high mass boilers can store even more heat. The Beckett Heat Manager delays the firing of the burner until the residual heat in the boiler is used. Once the temperature sensor on the supply pipe tells the Beckett Heat Manager the residual heat has been used the burner is allowed to fire. This delaying of the firing of the burner saves you money by not running the burner when it isn’t needed taking advantage of the residual heat in the boiler.
When the boiler is cycling between the high and low limit settings the Beckett Heat Manager also works to save you money. When the boiler reaches the upper limit and shuts off the Beckett Heat Manager takes three temperature readings per second from the temperature sensor on the supply pipe and calculates the heat load of the home using its microprocessor. Once the heat load is calculated the Beckett Heat Manager computes the minimum temperature for the boiler water to efficiently heat your home in that heat load range and delays firing the burner until the minimum temperature is reached where the burner is again allowed to fire, this process saves you money by not running the burner until the minimum efficient water temperature is reached. This calculation process is repeated with each off cycle as the home gets heated the load demand changes so each off cycle requires new calculations for the most efficient minimum temperature. The Beckett Heat Manager makes the burner run for longer on cycles and longer off cycles increasing its efficiency. The Beckett Heat Manager also has provisions for boilers that are used for heating domestic hot water allowing your hot water needs to be met without sacrificing those needs for saving.
Check out getting a Beckett Heat Manager installed on your boiler today, but don’t count on getting money back under the Beckett Full Refund Warranty because you didn’t save 10% on your energy consumption. The Beckett Heat Manager will easily save at least that amount.
