Triangle Tube Prestige Series Boiler Review

Triangle prestige solo The Triangle Tube Prestige Series Boilers are wall hung Modulating Condensing Boiler that fire on either natural gas or propane gas. Triangle Tube has been producing boilers, heat exchangers, and water heaters since 1946. Triangle Tube is headquartered in Blackwood, NJ where their 100,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and training facility is located. Triangle Tube was one of the pioneers of the use of stainless steel in boiler making and is part of the ACV Group of Belgium. Triangle Tube’s Condensing Boilers not only save you money on your energy costs with over 95% efficiency, but their NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) emission, is so low that it exceeds the year 2012 Standards. NOx is a gas caused by high temperature combustion and contributes to Photochemical Smog, Greenhouse Gases, and Ozone Depletion so selection of a Triangle Tube Prestige Series Boiler is a green choice that saves you money too.

The Triangle Tube Prestige Solo Series Boilers are available in 5 models which fire at rates of 60,000 – 399,000 Btu/Hr all of which have a 95% AFUE efficiency. The Prestige Solo’s are heating only and if you want the boiler to make domestic hot water a separate zone and Indirect Water Heater would be required. Triangle Tube Prestige Excellence Series Boiler is available in the model 110 size and has a built in indirect water heater tank for providing domestic hot water it also has a 95% AFUE efficiency. This high efficiency allows the entire Triangle Tube Prestige Series to carry the Energy Star seal and qualifies it for Appliance Stimulus Package Rebates of up to $200, Weatherization Assistance Program Grants of up to $6500 if you qualify, State and Utility Energy Saving Rebates in over ½ the states, and a Income Tax Credit up to 30%. With all these Free Money Programs available there is no time like now to upgrade your heating system to save money and protect the environment too.

At the heart of the Triangle Tube Prestige Series Boilers is a Modulating Burner. This burner can modulate the burner between 25% – 100% of the rated output for the boiler you have allowing the boiler to closely match your heating needs without short cycling which reduces efficiency. The Modulating Burner also mixes the fuel and air together in the variable speed blower before going to the burner for a cleaner burn and better efficiency. The burner heat is then sent to a Condensing Boiler which is different from the conventional boilers in that it has an additional section where hot flue gases are used to preheat the water returning to the boiler. The use of the flue gases in the Condensing Boiler releases the latent heat of steam in the hot flue gases to provide the preheating and actually cools the flue gases so much that the steam in the flue gases condenses to water hence the name Condensing Boiler. The Modulating Burner and Condensing Boiler combine to give you high efficiencies that were never before obtainable.

The Triangle Tube Prestige Series Boilers include the MCBA Control which is a microprocessor that provides a digital display module, ignition control, operating control, high temperature limit protection, modulating temperature control, low water protection, outdoor reset, domestic hot water priority, two pump controls (Heating and DHW), and boiler freeze protection. Also included in the Prestige Series is a stainless steel premix burner assembly, a 439 grade stainless steel heat exchanger for resistance to corrosion, factory testing before shipping, a Limited 10 Year Warranty, negative pressure regulated gas valve, 30 PSI pressure relief valve, automatic air vent, pressure gauge, 120V power switch, condensate drain assembly, 24 V terminal strip with removable jumpers for manual reset or automatic reset of external controls, and NTC temperature sensors on the boiler supply/return and flue. The 110 Model also has a flanged Grundfos 3-speed UP15-58 system circulator included. The Prestige Excellence comes with a 14 gallon Indirect Fired Water Heater built in that can produce 180 GPH of domestic hot water.

There is no time like right now to upgrade your gas fired boiler system to a new Triangle Tube Prestige Series Modulating Condensing Boiler to save money and protect the environment. The combination of Rebates, Grants and Income Tax Credits make the cost of upgrading truly affordable and create a faster return on your investment.

I’m on the building and grounds committee for a church. We are wanting to up grade to a more effecient boiler. One of our selections that we are looking at is the Prestige 399,000 BTU natural gas fired boiler. What I would like to know is the temperature range of the water as it leaves the boiler. Our present boiler is an American Standard rated with an input:675000 BTU and output: 540000 BTU and was installed in 1974. We are located 185 miles of St. Louis, Mo. and we do have some minus degree weather through the winter. I do not have an accurate square footage of the church but an estimate would be approximately 7,500 square feet. We have put out bids to several contractors and this is what they recommend. I just trying to get more information to present to the board for approval. Thanks.

      Hi Tim,
I’m going to say with several different contractors agreeing on the heat calculations and coming back with the same size you are probably getting accurate results.
The outlet temperature will vary depending on outdoor reset and the operating parameters that are set into your boiler.
You can read about this in the installation and maintenance manual starting at the set up on page 43

      Thanks for commenting,

How many plumbers does it take to remove an old gas boiler and replace it with a wall mounted gas boler like a Triangletube?

    • Redwood says:

      Hi Fredrick,

There are really too many variables to your question to even venture a guess.
The physical size and weight of your old boiler, whether asbestos is involved, and access in and out of where the boiler is are probably some of the biggest factors.

ongoing problems with prestige boiler since installed i think i have a lemon

I have put several Solos in. With out knowing the problem it is difficult to diagnous. The only problems I have run into is in the software. When programing I in advertantly change the peramaters. A quick call to the factory fixed that. The Solo is just a tank with heat going through it. The control board has some problems with voltage spikes and brown outs. I never saw them. Like all boilers flue gas recirculation is a problem. (Not near as large of a problem as most brands) The next item is flow, is it set up as a true primary secondary system? Is the boiler over sized? Are the control peramiters set up right for your system. You can lower temps etc. Do you have enough flow? All boilers have a minimum flow rate.

Re: several problems, ? Lemon… I have appx 50 of these boilers installed. There have been very few problems. The best in the industry as far as I have seen for repairs. If there are problems, it is usually set up and install errors. Once in a long while there has been a bad circuit board but I think I have had 1 out of 50 which is great record. You must set up with analyzer to make sure combustion is right. Power supply is critical, check for proper clean power and ground. This is the most often thing I see is bad power supply will shut boiler down on E04 error code, ? i think I am remembering the code # right, I am not in front of book. Note down the error code on the display if it shuts down on you again in near future. Respond to this post if you have further problems and maybe I can direct you a bit.

I must replace my boiler, which is located in a utility room adjacent to my family room/kitchen. I have an estimate for the Prestige PS 110,000. Noise is an important factor in my selection. How would you rate this boiler for quiet operation?

    • Redwood says:

      Hi Vicki,
I believe you would be pleasantly surprised by how quiet these units are. I don’t have actual numbers to back up what I say but they are quiet.

As a neophyte, energy illiterate residential home owner, I am about to sign a contract to purchase and install a Triangle Tube Prestige mold PS175 with AFUE of 95 percent. This will replace a 26 year old Burnham with a 78 percent AFUE — as part of New Jersey’s NJ Home Performance with Energy Star Program. In addition to the $1,500 federal tax credit, we are guaranteed by the contractor the NJ rebate of $3,000 when we achieve 25 percent energy efficiency savings.

It all seems too good to be true. What am I missing?

What do I need to look out for?

    • Redwood says:

      Hi Harry,

In my opinion the Triangle Tube Prestige is a great unit and that is shared by many in the trade.
With the rebates and other incentives totaling $4500 it is too good to be true, so there is no better time to do it.
