Hi John,

There really is no comparison as plumbers putty and plumbers tape are used in completely different applications

Putty is used under faucets and drain flanges to provide a seal between the sink and the faucet or drain flange.

Plumbers tape is used to seal threaded connections so the comparison would only be able to be made with pipe dope.
I honestly don't know if I can compare teflon tape and teflon dope either because I use a belt and suspenders approach and use teflon dope over teflon tape with great success.

Hi Robert,

You may be able to scrape the silicone caulk off with a single edge razor blade then scrub the stained area with Denatured Alcohol. No guarantee's here but Denatured Alcohol typically cuts the silicone caulks. Make sure you wear latex gloves the Denatured Alcohol is rough on hands.

Hi Robert,

I'm having trouble understanding which product you used and had the problem. Hercules has four products that you could be talking about, they have Sta-Put Ultra, Sta-Put, Plumber's Caulk, and Plumber's Caulk Silicone.

The product that you should have used would have been Sta- Put Ultra which would not have stained the Granite Counter-top.
