Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 Review

Kohler Cimarron K-11451 The Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 is an elongated bowl, comfort height toilet that has Kohler’s Class 6 Flushing System. The Kohler Cimarron K-11451 and its Class 6 Flushing System are designed to provide a powerful flush with only 1.28 gallons of water used per flush. This toilet has been tested and is certified to meet the EPA’s WaterSense certification requirements this makes the toilet eligible for rebates in some municipalities. The minimum specification for this type of toilet is that the toilet flushes with 1.28 GPF and the toilet flushes a minimum of 350 grams of solids per flush. This minimum standard of 350 GmPF was determined to satisfy the flushing needs of the male population to the 99.5 percentile. In flush testing the Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 is listed in the 15th edition of the MaP Report released October 2009, as flushing 1,000 GmPF. It should be noted however that the MaP Report is only a flushing test and is not a quality test nor is bowl wash considered. The MaP Testing is only conducted to 1,000 GmPF because higher numbers serve no useful purpose and the high-test numbers frequently come at the expense of bowl wash. The bowl wash is what keeps your toilet clean between brush cleanings and in the case of this toilet there seem to be a number of complaints regarding the bowl wash on product reviews and internet forums.

The Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 is a complete toilet with everything you need for installation except the supply line and caulk to apply around the base where it meets the floor. The toilet is supplied with the tank and bowl, toilet seat, closet bolts, wax ring, and closet bolt caps. I would also like to note that the wax ring provided with the Kohler Cimarron K-11451 is the type that has a black plastic horn resembling a funnel built into it which many people think helps prevent leaks. My personal opinion is that this type of wax ring actually causes far more problems than it ever cured and in the case of the high performance flush toilets with the larger outlets in some cases can cause interference with the fit to the closet flange actually in some cases restricting the flow of waste causing clogs and leaks as well. I would recommend using a plain wax ring without the black plastic horn in most installations.

The Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 is available in white only and measures 28 3/4” (73cm) L X 17 5/8” (44.7cm) W X 30 ¾” (78.1cm) H and fits a 12” (30.5cm) rough-in. The toilet meets the requirements of ADA, ASME A112.19.1/CSA B45.2, Energy Policy Act of 1992, and EPA WaterSense. The Kohler Cimarron K-11451 utilizes Kohler’s Class 6 flushing system, which is a proprietary canister valve that has a powerful flush using 1.28 GPF, and features a unique proprietary “DryLock” method of attaching the tank to the bowl where an attachment plate under the tank eliminates the need for bolts and sealing washers through the tank to secure the tank to the bowl. The Kohler Cimarron K-11451 is constructed from vitreous china, has a 2 1/8” (5.4cm) glazed trapway, and has a water spot in the bowl measuring 10 1/2″ (26.7 cm) X 7 1/8″ (18.1 cm). The Kohler Cimarron K-11451 is designed so that when installed on a 12” (30.5cm) rough-in there is a 1” (2.5cm) space between the tank and the wall so in theory it could fit a rough-in measuring 11” (27.9cm), the base is a large oval shape flattened at the rear measuring 16 ½” (41.9cm) from the closet bolts to the front of the base, 8 ½” (21.6cm) from the closet bolts to the rear of the base while being 10” (25.4cm) wide. The oval shape of the base may have difficulty covering the footprint of an old toilet that had a large square base when used in a replacement situation. Tools required for installation are a small adjustable wrench, putty knife, level, and a hacksaw. The toilet is covered by a 1-Year Warranty from Kohler, which will be void if in tank bowl cleaners are used, and warranty or, parts issues can be solved by calling 1-(800)-Buy Kohler.

The Kohler Cimarron Complete Solution Toilet K-11451 is available at many Kohler dealers including plumbing supply houses, kitchen and bath centers, home centers including Home Depot and Lowe’s.

I replaced an old American Standard Working toilet with the Kohler Cimarron for more modern appearance and quality.
I also have several other Kohler toilets and are happy with them.
The Cimarron, however, is beyond question the worst toilet I have ever owned.
It doesn’t properly flush the bowl. In most cases, after flushing, it must be wiped out and flushed at least once again.
Kohler should be ashamed to sell such an inferior product.

James have you solved that awful problem with your Cimarron?
Have Koehler given you some sort of response for a solution to this problem?
Are you using it upstairs or downstairs? Ours would be used downstairs which could cause an even bigger problem than if it were used upstairs.

After doing our due-diligence research we were on our way out the door to pick ours up when I read your evaluation on my last internet search so I guess we are going to look for something else.

      Thanks

This Cimarron new is perfectly disappointing!!! The K-3609 or Complete Solution K-11451 is listed as WaterSense for rebates in many areas. But the clean bowl reviews are awful!!!

We just bought our Cimarron at Home Depot and haven’t had any of the problems you mention. We’ve had it a couple of weeks and so far no problem like you have mentioned. I googled around a bit to see what people are saying and one person showed trying to flush salt and pepper, which is a rather odd choice as pepper will stick to the glass on a glass of water. Another said it flooded the bathroom after clogging, which is rather unusual as well as ours doesn’t use enough water to fllood. It does seem to be a very good flusher and our bowl remains clean. Some people said it took 2 or 3 hours to install and installed very easily. My husband had no complaints about the installation but it didn’t take more than an hour. We replaced an American Standard after five years of problems. We bought 3 American Standards and have tried this one to see how it goes and so far so good. The American Standard we bought appears to not be for sale any more at Home Depot so they must’ve just taken it off the market; we were going to do a review on it but can’t find it on their website anymore. Since our recent bought of homework on toilets we have found out about the MaP rating and our last one had a score of 300 which is very poor. The Cimarron has a MaP score of 1000 and seems to ‘take it all’ with no residue left behind. It’s definitely a good low-flow toilet and we will are going to replace the remaining two toilets with the Cimarron in the next month or so if no issues crop up. We were told at Home Depot that if we were not happy with it to return it with the receipt.

      Hi Carol,

As always some people like a product that others don’t.
Why I can’t say I guess it can be summed up as YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
I only repeat the numerous complaints I have heard about a lack of bowl wash in the back portion of the bowl.
Which I agree with because of the lack of holes under the rim at the rear portion of the bowl.
Obviously the two comments above yours found the bowl wash to be inadequate.
I can also say I have had the pleasure of auguring a clogged Cimarron toilet as well.
I have found personally that the installation was a breeze with the unique bracket that Kohler uses to attach the tank to the bowl but I can also see that the bracket may be a headache when replacing the fill valve if that is ever required.

        Hi Redwood,

I agree about mileage may vary. The video I watched from one person was quite helpful, although at first I thought it looked a little disgusting until he explained it was salt and pepper and not what I was thinking it was! It would be helpful if more people could do that and we could watch individual ones. A visual aid seems to get the message across quite good. At Home Depot the woman explained that they test the toilets by flushing beans down them which I would think would be a little different texture than what we provide, unless of course they were already cooked. (Hmmm now I’m thinking TMI.)

I was also wondering if some change had been made to the toilet design OR maybe the vitreous china batch had been too coarse? I went and watched ours a couple of times and it does flush down the back.

I know for sure that if we have problems it will go back pronto . . . we won’t wait five years and suffer through multiple flushings, holding the handle down for a long period of time or keeping the plunger nearby for each job. A toilet is one of those things and when running well then you don’t notice it, but if running poorly can make your life a tad miserable!

I couldn’t agree with you more.
Considering the amount of time a toilet stays in a home without being changed out.
Most go through several homeowners and people own them longer than a car.
The importance of selecting a good one cannot be overstated yet most people don’t even think about it.
